The lifting of the new Entenwerder pedestrian and cycle bridge has been successfully completed. The bridge will connect the HafenCity and Rothenburgsort districts and create a direct pedestrian link across the Oberhafenkanal for the first time.
In a highly demanding engineering maneuver, the pre-assembled partial segments of the bridge superstructure were joined together on the abutments between the Elbbrücken and the Elbpark Entenwerder . The final step was the central middle segment, which was fitted precisely with the help of a floating crane.

A building that brings people together
Dr. Andreas Kleinau, Chairman of the Management Board of Billebogen Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG:
"The successful lifting of the Entenwerder Bridge makes visible to everyone what previously had to be imagined on the basis of plans: this structure brings people together and opens up new paths. It not only links HafenCity with its neighboring districts, but also strengthens an urban community that focuses on accessibility, quality of life and sustainable mobility."
The bridge will be the 520th pedestrian and cycle bridge in Hamburg to be added to the city's inventory. With a length of 135 meters and a span of 75 meters, it is one of the largest of its kind in Hamburg. The design was created by sbp schlaich bergermann partner (Stuttgart) in collaboration with gmp Architekten von Gerkan, Marg und Partner (Hamburg).
Once the bridge has been lifted into place, the design and structural qualities of the bridge can be seen for the first time. Architect Andreas Weihnacht (gmp) describes it as an "architectural highlight" that impresses with its elegant silhouette and functional design. Engineer Sven Plieninger (sbp) emphasizes the sustainable construction and choice of materials, which give the bridge a long service life.

Outlook: Expansion and new green spaces
The bridge is being built by Billebogen Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG. The construction work is being carried out by LEONHARD WEISS GmbH & Co. KG. The project is being funded by the federal "Stadt und Land" program to promote cycling.
The bridge will be further expanded by mid-2026. This includes creating the adjacent path connections - in particular to the Elbbrücken underground and S-Bahn station - as well as restoring the green spaces on both sides. In Elbpark Entenwerder , the path to Alexandrastieg will be widened to accommodate the increased volume of pedestrian and bicycle traffic in the future. In addition, the new "Zweibrücken Park" with around 70 new trees is being created on the banks of the Elbbrücken .
