In Billebogen , a major project Billebogen into its next phase: a plot of land Huckepackbahnhof now Huckepackbahnhof put up for bid for the construction of a sports and event arena at Huckepackbahnhof Neue Huckepackbahnhof . The arena is primarily intended to host medium-sized events and expand Hamburg’s offerings.
Senator for Sports Andy Grote:
“The arena near the Elbbrücken create a highly attractive new venue for live sports and cultural events in Hamburg. The most important thing is that the Hamburg Towers will finally have a larger home, which will allow us to strongly support the continued positive development of Bundesliga basketball in Hamburg.”
Plans for a variety of uses
Although the plan is to use the arena for professional sports on about 25 days a year, the focus is on diverse use throughout the entire year.
The request for proposals deliberately leaves room for flexibility—for example, for complementary recreational, sports, or commercial offerings in the immediate vicinity. A market survey conducted in 2025 shows that both the location and the arena development have generated significant interest.
Dr. Andreas Kleinau, Chairman of the BBEG, describes the new Huckepackbahnhof “a 24-hour urban hub where modern work environments during the day are complemented by recreational, sports, and cultural activities in the evenings and on weekends.”

Part of a vibrant neighborhood
Well-connected and centrally located: The site benefits from short distances to downtown as well as easy access by public transportation and car. In addition, a neighborhood parking garage is being built to consolidate traffic.
At the same time, the surrounding area is also improving in quality; the Elbe opens up new possibilities for the area around the arena.
Clear guidelines for implementation
Clear requirements regarding sustainability, energy efficiency, and accessibility have been established for the project’s implementation.
The land is scheduled to be awarded by the end of 2026. Construction could begin in the late 2020s, with the opening planned for the early 2030s.
